Balnagown Estate is just a forty five minute drive north of Inverness and close to the picturesque town of Tain. The estate has in its grounds Balnagown Castle, which has been transformed over the last 30 years from a previous ruin to a stunning residence by the estate’s owner, Mr Mohamed Al Fayed.
Although the castle isn’t available for letting, its relatively close proximity to the other properties makes a stay at Balnagown a very special one. In addition and because of the castle, the estate has obvious and very effective security measures and therefore is ideal for anyone wanting luxury accommodation combined with absolute privacy. Of the three estates, Balnagown itself offers our guests the most facilities on site and these include the following:
There are extensive cycle tracks across the Balnagown Estate and for those wanting to cover good distances, it is a great way to see the estate. We have bikes to suit all ages and the use of these is free.
We’re always pleased to arrange a clay shoot for you and your family, friends or colleagues, though there is a supplementary charge (the only activity we offer where there is a charge). The shoot is always properly and safely organised with full supervision for those less experienced.
If you are staying at any of the properties on the estate and as part of the price, you can take out a fishing boat on one of our well-stocked and managed lochs, with our staff providing all the necessary equipment if you do not have your own.
Archery has been practised at Balnagown for as long as there has been a castle on the estate. This ancient sport is remarkably good fun and all ability levels are welcome. Again, there is no charge for archery.
The sports hall is an excellent on-site facility offering a host of indoor sports such as badminton, basketball, volley ball, pool, table tennis and many more. The hall is heated so ideal for winter days and evenings.
The Observation Tower is a wonderful viewing platform from which to appreciate the remarkable natural beauty of Balnagown. You’ll even have your own key to the observation tower so you can visit it whenever you like.
The castle gardens are extensive and an enchanting part of the estate which our guests are very welcome to explore, though we just ask that this is arranged with a member of staff at the estate office.
Balnagown Estate is the perfect base for a golfing holiday to take in links courses such as the world-renowned Royal Dornoch, Tain, Brora and Golspie. All of these courses are in easy reach of Balnagown with Royal Dornoch being just 12 miles away. In addition, Castle Stewart is just a 40 minute drive to the south. Another real benefit of staying at Balnagown for your golfing holiday is that there are so many other things to do – perfect for any non-golfing members of your party!
Balnagown provides an excellent base from which to explore the Northern Highlands, plus south to Speyside and the Cairngorms, and the west coast which is an easy drive taking the Ullapool road.
