Fishing - Balnagown Highland Estate Luxury Retreats

Skip main menu

As you’d expect on any fine Highland estate, we offer both the novice and experienced fisherman a range of options with rod and line. And of course, we also have some of the best fishing cottages in Scotland to come home to each evening after a day on the river or loch.

At Balnagown Estate, you can take out a boat on one of our stocked and managed lochs to fly fish for rainbow trout, or for brown trout on the Balnagown River. If you do not have your own tackle we’re also able to provide everything you need. There is no additional cost for fishing at Balnagown for guests staying at any of the Balnagown properties. Our fishing cottages Scotland at Balnagown are Gardener’s Cottage, Grieve’s Cottage, Swiss Cottage and Hill House, and for larger parties Marybank Lodge is the ideal property.

For guests staying at Invercassley and Duchally, salmon and trout fishing is available on the upper River Cassley, a spate river, with the estate’s stalkers able to advise on the more productive pools. Occasionally, there may be some availability to fish on the nearby River Oykel. Tigh na Rhos is just outside the picturesque village of Roseahall – a village very popular with anglers because it’s where the Rivers Cassley and Oykel meet.

At Duchally, three rods are included in the price of the lodge, with the River Cassley flowing just a stone’s throw from the property. Outside the stalking season the estate stalker can also advise on the best hill lochs for brown trout fishing.

A possible Macnab

Not every highland estate can offer the possibility of a Macnab – a salmon caught on the fly, a stag and a brace of grouse – but at Invercassley and Duchally we can. Of course we can’t guarantee it, but if anyone can help make it happen our head stalker can.
