Balnagown
is surrounded by stunning scenery from remote heather moorlands
to sweeping lowland countryside.
On the Estate there are roe deer, osprey, red kite, pine marten
and otter.
Nearby there are numerous nature reserves owned and managed by
leading conservation bodies such as The Royal Society for the Protection
of Birds and Scottish Wildlife Trust.
Balnagown is perfectly situated to explore the Highlands of Scotland.
The North, West and East coasts are within easy reach as are day
trips to Skye.
John O’Groats, the most northerly point of the British mainland,
is an easy day trip from the Estate and nearby you can catch the
ferry to Orkney with its magnificent history dating back to 5000BC.
Aviemore, Scotland’s premier ski destination, is close by
and is the gateway to the fantastic Cairngorm National Park.
To
the west of the country is the Bonnie Prince Charlie trail which
enjoys the most majestic scenery in the North West of Scotland including
the Cuillin Mountains.
Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is ¾ hour away.
A bustling town centre boasts some first class shopping and there
are a number of high quality restaurants on the bank of the picturesque
River Ness. There is an open top bus which gives a good overview
of the city and for children there is skating, swimming, cinema
and plenty besides to keep them entertained.
For history lovers, Dunrobin, Cawdor and Urquhart are three special
castles with fascinating histories and all are well worth a visit.
The Visitor Centre at the site of the last battle on British soil
- Culloden – has recently re-opened and is a marvellous resource
that will entrance children and delight adults.
Balnagown is situated close to many world famous golf courses
including Royal Dornoch, Tain, Brora & Golspie.
