Archery has apparently been practised at Balnagown for as long as there has been a castle on the estate. This ancient sport is remarkably good fun and all ability levels are welcome to take part, with supervision and help provided for novices if required.

Bird Watching

All three estates provide excellent bird watching and all the properties are good bases for a bird watching holidays in the Northern Highlands.

Castle Gardens

The castle gardens at Balnagown Estate are extensive and beautiful, and an enchanting part of the estate which our guests are very welcome to explore and enjoy. As the castle is a private residence though, we do just ask that our guests arrange their visit to the gardens with a member of staff.

There are good opportunities for cycling on all three estates, though for families Balnagown Estate is by far the most suitable as there are extensive cycle tracks, and the estate’s private roads, to use throughout. In addition, the terrain at Balnagown is much less rugged and hilly than at Invercassley and Duchally.

At Balnagown Estate, you can take out a boat on one of our well-stocked and managed lochs to fly fish for rainbow trout, or for brown trout on the Balnagown River.

GolfAlthough there is no golf course at any of our estates, Balnagown Estate is the perfect base for a golfing holiday to take in links courses such as the world-renowned Royal Dornoch, Tain, Brora and Golspie. All of these courses are in easy reach of Balnagown with Royal Dornoch being just 12 miles away. In addition, Castle Stewart is just a 40 minute drive to the south. Another real benefit of staying at Balnagown for your golfing holiday is that there are so many other things to do – perfect for any non-golfing members of your party!

Indoor Sports

Balnagown Estate boasts an excellent sports hall which offers badminton, basketball, volley ball, pool, table tennis and many more. This facility is close to Grieve’s Cottage, but can easily be reached from all the properties at Balnagown.

Observation Tower

The observation tower at Balnagown Estate is a wonderful viewing platform from which to appreciate the remarkable natural beauty of the estate and the area beyond. Originally a water tower which has been expertly converted, our guests staying at any of the Balnagown Estate properties have their own key to the observation tower so they can visit it whenever they like.

The walks at Balnagown Estate are relaxed and relatively easy, with the beautiful undulating woodland landscape offering both short and longer walks. All the properties at Balnagown are ideal bases for a walking holiday, as the estate provides easy access to the Northern Highlands and across to the west coast.
