Biking

Want to explore the estate on two wheels? Help yourself to the bike that suits you (along with a helmet) from our well-stocked bike shed at the estate square. Guests can feel free to take the bikes out of the estate. There are plenty of bike routes in the area. The National Bike Route 1 runs just a mile north of the core estate along the Scotsburn Road between Alness and Tain.

If you’d prefer to take your bike off road, there are trails throughout the estate, but if you’d like something more challenging, head to the Highland Wildcat Trails near Golspie. There’s a wide choice of adrenaline-pumping routes for different levels, including the longest downhill descent in the UK.

Golf Net & Archery

If you would like to indulge in a spot of target practice, you’ll find our archery target and golf net are set up and ready to go near the Observation Tower. Archery sets are kept at the base of the tower for guests’ use.

Fishing – Loch Larrack & the Balnagown

Fancy casting a line but never tried, or perhaps you’re a seasoned angler? Here we offer you a choice. Enjoy the pristine waters of the Balnagown river that boasts both salmon and brown trout, or take it easy and enjoy a glass of wine down by Loch Larrack, as you wait for the opportunity to hook a rainbow trout in this well-stocked loch. We have everything you need to try and catch one – you’ll find fishing equipment for your use, and even some friendly advice from our staff team if you’d like it!

Running & Outdoor Gym

If running’s your favourite way to decompress, you’ll be spoilt for choice with well-marked routes around the estate. Every year we mow new tracks through the grass and undergrowth to give you somewhere fresh and interesting to discover. There is also a surfaced 400-metre running track located between the square and the castle. You are just as welcome to link from the estate on to one of the local walks or core paths. Maps of Scotland’s Core Paths can be found in your Welcome Packs. Please contact the estate office for suggestions and ideas.

Why not combine your morning run with an upper body and core workout in the fresh air? Enjoy our Outdoor Gym and the splendid views over the estate that it gives you.
