Balnagown provides an excellent base from which to explore the Northern Highlands, plus south to Speyside and the Cairngorms, and the west coast which is an easy drive taking the Ullapool road.
Close to Balnagown there are a number of golf courses including the world-renowned Royal Dornoch, plus other links courses at Tain, Golspie and Brora. For families staying at Balnagown, there are some excellent beaches close-by including at Dornoch and Embo.
The Moray Firth is a renowned area to watch Bottle Nosed Dolphins, with the population of around 190 being a very special one as it is the most northerly in the world. There are various places to watch the dolphins from the shore, including at North Kessock which is about a 25 minute drive from the estate.
The city of Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is just a 30 minute drive to the south and has a wealth of restaurants, shops and visitor attractions.
Although once on the estate it may seem very wild and remote, larger towns such as Tain and Dornoch are within easy reach and both have superb links golf courses. Also easily accessible, is the coastal village of Golspie which also has a links golf course plus Dunrobin Castle which has impressive gardens and falconry displays.
The beautiful west coast is an easy drive from all three properties at Invercassley on the road from Rosehall heading west, with Ullapool just a 45 minute drive.
Although our guests at Duchally Lodge are more inclined to stay on the estate for the duration of their stay and largely because of the privacy and peace and quiet it provides, about an hour’s drive can take guests to towns such as Tain and Dornoch. Here there are golf courses, restaurants and a wide range of shops.
